Workshops & Panel Discussions
Law and Policy
The Law and Policy on Licensing and Permit acquisition in the Mining Sector
Gemstone traders and miners have been experiencing difficulties in acquiring licenses with the enactment of the Mining Act 2016. Industry players have been forced to work without the requisite permits and some failing to engaging in the trade all together. This has affected the export of minerals and has resulted in the loss of income.
The panel discussion will revolve around the issues being faced by the sector, how the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining is mitigating the issues and the solutions by industry players.
Access to Financing
Financial Management and Literacy of Miners in Kenya
Finance is the lifeblood of any business and is required for the process of both starting a venture and maintaining operations.
Small Scale or Artisanal Miners find it difficult to access finance due to a number of factors including an inadequate number of assets to use as collateral, lack of satisfactory business plans and accounting reports, and insufficiently high levels of profitability or liquidity.
Thus the conversation for this panel should revolve around moving away from the formal lending institutions and seek alternatives sources of funding and the literacy angle on how they can access the knowledge to understand the financial implications of the facilities
